Geneva Motor Show was once again the stage for another exciting car announcement, and this time it is the all new Honda Civic!
The all-new Honda Civic was shown at the car show, and it looks stunning! Boasting 316bhp and 400Nm of torque. All coming from its gutsy turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder VTEC engine.
Honda will also attempt to reclaim the Nürburgring lap record for a front-wheel-drive production car. Currently that record is held by the Volkswagen Golf Clubsport S, with a time of seven minutes and 49 seconds – 1.4 seconds faster than the previous Civic Type R.
All you need to know about the new Honda Civic Type R
Engine: Turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder VTEC engine
Gearbox: Six-speed manual box
0-62MPH: Around 5.7 Seconds
Launch: June 2017
Price: ~ £32,000
With an eye to broaden the appeal of the new Type R, Honda have included adaptive dampers and a full range of driving modes. Something they have never done with the Civic before. They’ve included ‘Comfort’, ‘Sport’, and the more track focused ‘R+’ mode. They all make slight alterations to the steering, throttle, damper and gearshift response. They have also added a rev-matching function which will automatically blip the throttle on downshifts, helping with smooth gearchanges and keeping momentum.
The suspension comprises MacPherson struts at the front and an independent multi-link set-up at the rear with strengthened suspension arms. One feature carried over from the outgoing Type R is the high-performance Brembo braking system.
